Your first appointment

Prior to your first appointment you will be sent introductory information confirming your appointment date, time and the location of the practice. This will also outline information about fees and rebates, and our confidentiality and privacy policy. There will also be a form for you to complete regarding your personal contact details and  consent to treatment. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your General Practitioner (GP) you will need to bring a copy of the plan and your Medicare card to your first appointment.

What to expect at your first appointment

Attending your first psychology appointment can be a daunting experience for many people. At the Talking Cure Psychology Group you will be treated with sensitivity and respect. The first session is generally spent discussing the issues that have brought you into therapy.

As well as developing a thorough understanding of your concerns, your therapist will explore relevant background history, for example, information about your family, social relationships, work history and any past counseling that you have done. This forms the basis for you and your therapist to work together to understand more about what might be triggering and maintaining your current issues, and develop a plan for future therapy sessions.
